Thylacine was commissioned by Museums Victoria to collaborate with scientists, designers, and storytellers to bring a Wild Animals gallery to life—an immersive encounter woven into a breathtaking journey through the ecosystems and biomes of Our Wondrous Planet.

Visitors are welcomed by an animated procession of diverse species that parade into the gallery, setting the stage for a theatrical and spellbinding narrative. A playful and vibrant visual identity, with its undulating forms and gradual shifts of colour, echoes the dynamic and ever-evolving planet we share.

The heart of the gallery lies in the hundreds of extraordinary animal specimens that form part of our extended genetic family. Here, connections reveal themselves—between habitats and behaviours, fur and feathers, scales and skin, and each species’ place in the great tree of life.

At the centre, an interactive digital table flows like a river of discovery, inviting visitors to explore contrasts and connections, uncover curious facts, and spark new understandings. A full-height illustrated mural traces the tree of life from our earliest common ancestor to today’s remarkable diversity, activated by a gallery-wide handprint trigger that illuminates branches spanning millions of years.

Drawing on our extensive expertise in mount making and installation, we shaped the displays to suggest a natural gathering—an interplay between species that evokes the profound truth that we are all connected.

In close collaboration with Museums Victoria, Thylacine led the design, production, digital integration, procurement, mount making, offsite fabrication, and onsite installation to create an exceptional and deeply immersive experience.
