Musonga Mbogo was one of two artists Thylacine worked with on the ACT Government Canberra Hospital Expansion Project.
We collaborated with Musonga to design, fabricate, and install a children’s play wall featuring five simple mechanical interactive games. Inspired by icons of Canberra, the design drew on the city’s natural setting and architectural identity, creating a visually engaging and locally resonant experience.
Designed for children these games tested a variety of motor skills while fostering joyful interactions. The design and functionality of the interactives were significantly influenced by strict hygiene requirements, demanding them to be easy to clean and safe for high traffic use in a hospital setting.
This resulted in some unique detailing. The design prioritised durability and robustness, incorporating minimal moving parts to ensure long-term functionality and low maintenance.
