The Women’s Cricket Gallery at the Bradman Museum and International Cricket Hall of Fame was designed to capture the spirit and evolution of women’s cricket in Australia.
The project encompassed the development of content, design, documentation, fabrication, and installation of an engaging exhibition honouring the sport’s rich history and achievements. A key challenge was the gallery’s existing space, which featured extensive floor-to-ceiling glazing, causing excessive ultraviolet light, glare, and difficulties for light-sensitive materials. Additionally, visitors entered the space after an intense visual experience in other museum areas, requiring a design that effectively refocused their attention.
To address this, we created a small-scale stadium as the exhibition’s centre piece, immersing visitors in the world of women’s cricket. The stadium structure housed the main storytelling elements, surrounded by super-sized dynamic action shots of contemporary female cricketers. This design balanced focus and atmosphere, drawing visitors into the content while reinforcing the energy of the sport. A mix of storytelling techniques enhanced visitor engagement. Contemporary showcase settings displayed memorabilia from Australia’s greatest female cricketers, while AV featured firsthand insights from contemporary players. The exhibition also explored the science of cricket, reflecting its growing importance in the modern game.
By blending historical narrative with interactive and visual elements, the Women’s Cricket Gallery offers an immersive and inspiring tribute to the trailblazers of Australian women’s cricket.
