2012 Australian Tourism Award for best new development

A permanent exhibition developed for the Museum of Old and New Art, Tasmania

Thylacine were involved in the development of Tasmania’s Museum of Old and New Art, MONA. The brief was to design extremely discreet object mounts to display ancient and contemporary artefacts in challenging and often unconventional contexts, whilst also integrating these display solutions into the complex architectural aesthetic of the new building.

We were responsible for the conception, intense problem solving, design, fabrication and installation of a varied range of object mounts and supports. The smallest mount was designed for 110 6th Century BC Roman coins arranged in such a way as to look like a constellation of stars. One of the largest was an engineered mount for an overweight Porsche, requiring a crane to lift it into the museum through the roof, and then mounted to float 100mm above the gallery floor.
