Permanent exhibition, Carnarvon Gorge

The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service engaged Thylacine to design and implement a new interpretive space and exterior way finding signage package for the Carnarvon Gorge Visitor Centre in remote central Queensland.

The Carnarvon National Park holds significant historical and ongoing importance for Indigenous communities, as well as geological, ecological and pastoral understandings of the site. The interpretive design of the Carnarvon Gorge Visitor Centre exhibition enhances a greater understanding of these unique attributes through strategies of interaction, participation and applied experience.

Differing narratives; the highland sandstone ‘Roof of Queensland’, the meeting place of rivers, the location of water within a semi-arid zone, a storied landscape containing sacred sites are interwoven, taking visitors on a transformative journey that can be overlaid with direct experiences contained within the park.
